Make Your Own Beef Jerky Dehydrator Reddit
Methods for making beef jerky (dehydrator, oven, box fan)
Practice any of y'all brand beefiness jerky, and if so, is there a sure method that you call back works better than others?
I take been reading up on unlike means of making it, and people seem to suggest either a dehydrator or the box fan method. I have been looking at the latter, but air filters are style more than expensive than what Alton lists in the episode, and it seems similar it would not be cost effective.
Ownership a dehydrator is non exactly inexpensive, just it would somewhen cost more to keep using air filters.

I use an Excalibur ix tray unit of measurement - information technology tin exercise about ten lbs of meat into jerky in most 8-10 hours. It'south too great for drying tomatoes and herbs and annihilation else you can retrieve of. We made fantabulous fruit leather from strawberries before this yr. Information technology may be kind of expensive on the forepart, but yous will salve sooo much money by preserving what's in season and making your own snacks.

Thanks for the feedback. That is a much more serious dehydrator than we were thinking, but I judge y'all get what you pay for.
One of the things that I read virtually dehydrators is that they cook your jerky to some extent, altering the texture and flavor. Is that an issue that yous take experienced with any of your dehydrated nutrient?

I use a Nesco Dehydrator. I was interested in Alton Browns method and ready out to get a setup like it but never had luck finding non fiberglass filters.
The real advantage to the box fan method is there is no cooking of the meat like in an oven or dehydrator. I've never had fan jerky and possibly information technology is better but until and so I am pretty happy with my dehydrator. Plus you lot can employ them to make other tasty snacks.

Dehydrator all the fashion. Open door oven is a massive waste of electricity and yous tin easily burn stuff.
No opinion on brands, except make sure you you lot get 1 that is extendable so that you can add more layers. Yous tin can choice upward dehydrators fairly cheap for dwelling dehydrating mind. No demand to get expensive ones I picked upwards ane for about 40€ with six layers does the task very well.

I use the box fan method, I think it terminate up being cheaper if you lot desire to do pocket-sized amounts of jerkey. I would, however, pick up some dehydrator trays instead of the expensive (and wasteful) air filters. I got mine on amazon here. Information technology cost me about $40 to become the fan and those filters, and I can turn nigh ii lbs of meat into jerkey over dark.

Thanks for the feedback. It looks like the entire affair will exist much more than feasible if I use those racks.
Aside from the circular grate, are they completely exposed? I am a bit hesitant to have a bunch of meat outside of my house that is that exposed to animals and bugs. The air filters seem to exist much more than enclosed, which I consider an advantage.

I use the oven method atm considering I'thousand likewise cheap to purchase a dehydrator. Information technology works perfectly for me. Put it on before I go to bed, then take it out in the morning. Never had a bad batch (out of my 7 or so) and information technology'southward easy to clean up.

A friend of mine makes his best hasty in a smoker matter. It looks like an oven with the dimensions of a mini-refrigerator. I don't know if it's really a dehydrator or a smoker or what, but it's something that he uses indoors in his kitchen.

I use a cooling rack in a sheet pan to catch the drips. Oil the cooling rack! I have a convection oven and so I use its everyman setting, 170F for half-dozen hours. I usually turn them over half style through. Cutting off a bit and cook in a fry pan so you can test for seasoning, you can rinse if too salty or sprinkle on table salt if needed. iii/xvi" seems near the best thickness for me.
